Therapist Vacancy, Avenue Road Dental Practice

Avenue Road Dental Practice currently requires a part-time dental therapist. Initially the post will be for 1-2 days each week. The successful applicant will be encouraged to expand his or her practice to further days.

This is a small private dental practice. The team consists of the dentist, dental nurse and hygienist as well as non-clinical team members. We serve a mainly adult demographic and provide general dental care as well as cosmetic treatments.

There are only a small number of patients under the age 18. This is an area that the therapist can help to develop.

Clinicians are expected to work to high standards and will be empowered to decide upon the length of appointment required for treatments and the number of appointments required. Certain skills are essential. Among these are:

  • The ability to carry out a thorough screening for oral pathology and the early detection of mouth cancer including head and neck palpation
  • The ability to place rubber dam isolation routinely for restorative treatments
  • A knowledge of tooth whitening procedures
  • A thorough grasp of the reliable use of composite. The practice is mercury-free and composite resin is used as a restorative in both anterior and posterior teeth

The dentist, Dr Philip Lewis lectures internationally on all of the above procedures so will be able to give in-house training; however the applicant will also be expected to attend external postgraduate training events as necessary.

The practice has a reputation for providing comfortable dentistry for its patients. This is partly due to our special approach of delivering local analgesia. Training in this area will also be given.

Avenue Road Dental Practice is based upon prevention. For this reason the successful candidate will be an excellent communicator able to discuss all areas of dental health, minimally-invasive dentistry, long-term dental health goals and the means to achieve these.

Dental hygiene will be an important part of the duties. All new patients receive a long initial hygiene appointment which concentrates primarily on hygiene, diet and health issues. Patients with special requirements, for example patients with diabetes, smokers or patients with dexterity problems will be identified at this appointment, appropriate advice given and a long-term treatment plan recommended in conjunction with input from both the patient and dentist as well as the dental therapist. We carry out a great deal of non-surgical periodontal therapy and often deliver quadrant or sextant scalings under local analgesia. We have an open mind towards the use of antimicrobial adjuncts in the treatment of periodontal disease and will discuss these on a case by case basis.

Please explore the rest of this website which will give you further insight about our practice. If you feel you would like to work here and can contribute to the development of the practice please apply for interview.

Working hours are flexible. Rates of pay will be discussed at interview.
