The Snap-On Smile
FAQ
What is it?
The Snap-On Smile is a thin plastic appliance that fits over your existing teeth.
What
can it be used for?
To improve the appearance of the shape, colour and position of your teeth
To
replace missing teeth
To act as a bruxism (grinding) night guard
As a diagnostic tool for those considering more
comprehensive cosmetic dental treatment e.g. veneers and crowns
To splint slightly loose teeth
How
is it made?
We take upper and lower impressions of your teeth and send these to our laboratory in the United
States with some photos of your existing smile.
Can I choose a smile?
Yes. You can choose the
shape and position of the teeth from a number of styles available. The laboratory will also work from photos if you want to
mimic someone else’s smile.
Will I need injections or drilling?
No.
Can I
take it out?
Yes. It is essential you remove the appliance regularly for tooth cleaning. Unless you are using
the appliance as a bruxism guard we recommend you leave it out when you sleep.
Will it fall out unexpectedly?
Generally
no. While any appliance that is not cemented to the teeth can become dislodged with excessive force, the Snap-On Smile fits
tightly over your own teeth and generally requires some effort to remove.
How long will it last?
3
- 5 years with normal use.
Who can’t have one?
People with very few natural teeth
People
with very loose teeth
How much does it cost?
Upper or lower teeth: £950.00
Upper
and lower teeth £1500.00
We ask you to arrange payment at the first appointment since we are liable for the costs
when the impressions are sent. We accept payment by cash, major credit cards, cheque or in monthly instalments (see below).
Do you have financing options?
Yes. We can provide up to 18 months interest-free credit (subject
to status) or longer periods which attract interest (rates vary - please ask for details).
How
many times must I visit your practice?
Twice. First for the impressions, then to fit the appliance. You may
subsequently visit for free checks and adjustments if you wish.
I have my own dentist. Is this a problem?
If
your own dentist does not offer the Snap-On Smile there will be no problem obtaining one elsewhere. As the treatment is non-invasive
(doesn’t involve changes to your own teeth) it will not interfere with your dentist’s treatment plan. If you wish,
we can contact your dentist and give details of your treatment and aftercare. It is important, however, that you tell your
dentist you have a Snap-On Smile before receiving further treatment as changes to the shape of your teeth may interfere with
the fit. With this knowledge your dentist will be able to plan treatment accordingly.
Can I eat with the Snap-On
Smile?
Yes. You should start with soft things at first until you become used to it.
Can I talk
with the Snap-On Smile?
Yes. Because there will be some slight changes to the position of the cheeks and lips
and because your tongue needs to get used to it, it may take several hours before you are speaking normally.
What
will it feel like?
At first it will feel tight. You will be aware there is something extra in your mouth. It
will take several days before you are completely used to it.
Can it damage my own teeth?
The
Snap-On Smile will not cause any damage to your own teeth; however, it is ESSENTIAL that you keep your teeth and the appliance
clean. We will give you instructions on how to do that as part of our service. The appliance does not, of course, treat tooth
decay or gum disease and so it is important you continue with your regular dental check-ups and hygienist appointments.
How
will it look?
Wonderful, we hope! Although the appliance is very thin it does fit over your own teeth so will
make them slightly more prominent. In addition, as many people request a lighter tooth colour than their natural shade the
teeth will be more conspicuous.
