Your first appointment is the time we can get to know each other and listen to your requests and needs.
After being welcomed at reception we'll complete some simple administration
and ask you about the sort of service you're looking for. We'd like you to arrive about 15 minutes before the time
of your appointment to help us complete this part of your consultation so that you will have the full amount of reserved time
with the dentist.
On coming through to the treatment
room and meeting the nurse and dentist your examination will begin. First, Philip Lewis will examine your cheeks, tongue and
other soft tissues for any sign of diseases before assessing your gum condition. He will then check the normal movement
of the joints of your jaw as well as the muscles that control it. He will carry on by examining each of the five surfaces
of each individual tooth. X-rays may be taken to look at the areas not visible from the outside. Close-up photographs of the
teeth may also be used to help illustrate areas of concern. The examination takes up to half an hour. At the end the dentist
will discuss his findings with you and answer any questions you may have. You will then be invited to return to reception
where you will be given a detailed treatment plan including costings and alternatives. If you are satisfied with this plan,
further appointments will be arranged.
Expect to spend about 2
hours with us for your initial consultation.
Taking the time to look after you properly
at this stage will help us to provide you with the best and most comfortable future dental care.
