Welcome to Our Practice!

We’re delighted to say that we have made great efforts to meet the demands of residents and have at last caught up with the backlog of treatments and examinations caused by the pandemic. If you have been on our waiting list over recent years we would like to sincerely thank you for your patience. If we have not contacted you yet please call us on 01983 759567 so we can arrange an appointment for you.

Your First Appointment

Your first appointment is the time we can get to know each other and listen to your requests and needs. After being welcomed at reception by Joy Lewis, we’ll complete some simple administration and ask you about the sort of dental services you’re looking for.

We’ll ask you to complete a confidential medical history form so that we can provide you with the safest and most appropriate treatments.

We’ll then usually take a full set of clinical photographs to help us make a treatment plan that you can fully understand.

About Your First Dentist Appointment

We’d like you to arrive about 15 minutes before the time of your appointment to help us complete this part of your consultation, so that you will have the full amount of reserved time with the dentist.

On coming through to the treatment room and meeting the nurse and dentist, your examination will begin. First, Philip Lewis will examine your cheeks, tongue and other soft tissues for any sign of diseases before assessing your gum condition. He will then check the normal movement of the joints of your jaw as well as the muscles that control it.

Philip will carry on by examining the five surfaces of each tooth. X-rays may be taken to look at the areas not visible from the outside. Close-up photographs of the teeth may also be used to help illustrate areas of concern. The examination takes up to an hour.

At the end, the dentist will discuss his findings with you and answer any questions you may have. You will then be given a detailed treatment plan including costings and alternatives. If you are satisfied with this plan, further appointments will be arranged. Expect to spend about 2 hours with us in total for your initial consultation. The cost of a full New Patient Examination including all these features is £110.00.

Caring for You

At Avenue Road Dental Practice, we care for people, as well as their teeth. We listen to your needs and any worries you may have, and use this as a guide in planning your future dental care. We always try to accommodate special needs and requests.

We are well aware of the confidence a bright white smile can bring and with that we offer a range of cosmetic dentistry, which not only helps to improve the look of your teeth, but also makes you feel better about yourself. Even our routine treatments are designed with appearance in mind.

We don’t use mercury amalgam fillings for a number of reasons, partly because we understand the concerns some people have about having this material placed in their mouths; so we use alternatives.

Avenue Road Dental Practice offer General & Cosmetic Treatments

We do everything possible to protect you from swallowing or breathing-in mercury during the removal of old fillings. We take allergies and sensitivities seriously. We try to avoid materials that might cause a reaction and listen carefully to reports of experiences you have had in the past.

The appointments you are offered may be longer than you are used to. This is to let us care for you without rush or pressure. We try to keep our patients healthy in an effort to avoid emergency treatments. We do this by concentrating on prevention.

We carefully explain the principles of home care – not only cleaning but also the implications different lifestyles and diets have on oral health. We have all been medical or dental patients ourselves from time to time and want to treat others in the way we would like to be treated ourselves.
