Philip Lewis Interviewed on BBC Devon about Mouth Cancer

Philip Lewis was interviewed live on BBC Radio Devon earlier this week.

As an Ambassador for the Mouth Cancer Foundation he was asked to comment on how members of the public can get screened for the early detection of the disease. The interview followed a distressing account from a 33 year old mother of three who neither drinks nor smokes who is now seriously ill even following aggressive treatment.

Philip pointed out that mouth cancer can affect anybody, even those with healthy lifestyles and recommended all patients ask their dentist if he or she is carrying out regular mouth cancer screenings for them. He stressed that early detection saves lives.

Avenue Road Dental Practice will be offering free mouth cancer screenings on Wednesday, September 17th between 3.00-5.00pm. Places are limited so please book your appointment now by calling 01983 759567.

Mouth Cancer Awareness Day Coming Soon

Mouth Cancer Awareness Day takes place on Wednesday, 17th September. All our regular patients receive screenings for the early detection of mouth cancer at every examination appointment. On the 17th we’ll be offering free screenings for everyone! Appointments will take place between 3.00-5.00pm but it’s essential to book. Please call 01983 759567 to reserve your place. Appointments are limited so please act fast.

A screening for early signs of mouth cancer can identify the disease sooner, when chances of survival are much better and treatment usually much simpler than if the disease is discovered late.

Anyone can fall victim to mouth cancer. Although smoking and excessive drinking of alcohol increases the risk over 25% of all sufferers have no identifiable lifestyle risk factors. That’s why it’s so important to have screenings at least once a year.
